What is the story behind Trealetic and how did the name come about?
Well the name is a combination of trill which in southern slang terms means true and real and of course I consider myself poetic with words so I combined the two together to form Trealetic.
What has been your proudest moment to date in your music career and why?
I can’t say as of yet that I have reached my proudest moment but anytime I see my music being mentioned in articles blogs etc. – I consider those being proud moments because as an independent artist those don’t come a dime a dozen, so I’m very appreciative of any recognition I get.
Your music seems to be quite genre-fluid, from the conscious ‘The Flyest & Most Dangerous’ hip-hop album, to soulful cuts such as ‘Wolf’s Cry’ . How would you best describe your music to those who are new to Trealetic?
I would say that it’s very imaginative, metaphoric and unorthodox as far as concepts go. I pride myself in being as creative as I can when creating my material so that every song is unique in itself.
If you could collab with three artists of your choice who they be and why?
I would love work with Childish Gambino– the guy is a multitalented artist. Tech9ne – I have been a fan of his music for years and I thinks it’s dope how he is able to merge rock music with his own style. He’s an amazing artist. It would also be great to work with The Gorillaz – they’re super dope, their music definitely stands out.
If you had the ability, which honest advice would you give to your 18 year old self?
I would tell myself to be mindful of the kind of company I keep around you because sometimes they’re a bad influence on our life decisions.
We’ve all been through tough moments in life – What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far and what did you do to overcome it?
I was once homeless with barely any support. That situation taught me an extremely valuable life lesson which I overcame by digging deeper and becoming wiser. It also forced me to reassess my decision making and work ethic in general.
Finally, you’ve been around for a minute – what can we expect to see from you in 2019?
I have a few projects coming out and some are in the works but overall, I’ll be continuing to make some waves and build on my name!
