Pop 1280 is actually a 1964 crime novel described by critic Marche as a “true masterpiece, a preposterously upsetting, ridiculously hilarious layer cake of nastiness, a romp through a world of nearly infinite deceit.””  Today’s Pop1280 are conjuring the same descriptions. The first few bars have me almost shouting about the deceit. This is Joy Division. The sound. The vocal. The same low key angst. Deceitful rip off. Or is it? Wait. You listen further and it’s industrial, angrier than their mentors. The vocals ache towards an inspired Billy Corgan. Whether they be angry or angst filled, either way they’re grudgingly appealing.
